Women Educational Researchers of Kenya (WERK) is a not-for-profit professional
membership association working in a membership of the African Higher Education in
Emergencies Network (AHEEN) to implement a grant in support of refugees and displaced
persons in five African countries to ensure their access and completion of higher education
degree courses and their transition to the labour market. The project has set up a student
learning centre The Turkana West Education Hub-TWEH in Kakuma Municipality targeting
students from both the host community and the Refugee Displaced Populations.
Overall Responsibility:
WERK seeks to hire an Information Technology technician to be based in Kakuma/Kalobeyei
on temporary appointment (TA). As an IT Technician, you will be responsible for ICT project
implementations, providing user support on ICT systems/applications, maintenance of IT
equipment/software and liaising with 3rd party support to provide effective ICT systems.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Provide end-user support (IT support to Teacher Resource Center/TWEH staff and
students)
2. Ensure ICT asset file and maintenance files/logs are maintained and up to date.
3. Run backup for user files from user machines.
4. Email configuration, backup, and maintenance.
5. Setting up of desktop computers, laptops, and printers for users.
6. Ensure all computers including laptops and tablets used by staff and students are fitted
with antivirus
7. Conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide
technical assistance and support.
8. Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems.
9. Add users to the domain, analyze and solve domain related issues.

10. Maintain and upgrade hardware, software.
11. Help in procurement of IT equipment suitable for Kakuma/Kalobeyei set up.
12. Connect users to the Learning Hub network.
13. Ensure all support requests are recorded and closed within a reasonable time frame.
14. Ensure printers are in good working condition and service is done by vendor as and
when scheduled and printer consumables are maintained in stock.
15. Ensure all ICT maintenance plans are created and communicated with the team and
the relevant departments.
16. Assist with safe disposal of used toner cartridges.
17. Maintain an inventory of computer hardware and software (including licences)
18. Perform preventive maintenance duties on items of ICT hardware, including the
cleaning of equipment.
19. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electrical systems and equipment.
20. Ensure continuous electrical power supply through TRC/TWEH solar system.
21. Diagnose and resolve electrical problems, including faults in wiring, circuits, and
devices.
22. Report any suspected cyber security breaches to HUB Administrator for action.
23. Any other duty as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of a Diploma in ICT/IT/ Computer Science. A Bachelor’s degree will
be an added advantage.
2. At least 2 years of work experience in a busy environment.
3. Experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of ICT systems.
4. Must be a registered refugee/asylum seeker and a resident of Kakuma Refugee
Camp.
5. IT professional certification course is an added advantage.
6. Creative & analytical thinking.
7. Taking initiative and problem-solving skills.
8. Good time management skills.
9. Good communication and multitasking skills.
10. Ability to work under pressure.
