UNICEF, through other partners, implemented a Modeling of Integrated Interventions Programme with a focus on improving key indicative education indicators that include increasing access, retention, transition and participation in education in target Low Cost Primary Boarding Schools across 8 ASAL counties of Turkana, Mandera, Marsabit, Garisaa, Isiolo, Wajir, Tana River and Samburu counties.
The Programme Steering Committee (PSC) was established at national and county level to monitor and advice on programme implementation and to address any challenges that occurred in implementation. It is expected that by the end of the project, an action plan will be developed to initiate and strengthen continuous programme monitoring and sustainability of the Modeling of Integrated Interventions by the Turkana County Programme Steering Committee (PSC).
This project has only two outputs1. Training of the Board of Management (BOMs) to come up with the School Development Plans (SDP)
This is a 5 year project that seeks to improve learning outcomes where numeracy and literacy levels are the cross cutting barriers that need to be confronted. The project seeks to impact adolescent girls and boys, in and out of school, from chronically insecure households in rural areas and urban informal settlements. The target regions for the project are: Kajiado (rural area) & Mukuru (Urban informal settlement).
The program is being implemented around key innovations, namely:a) Economic Citizenship, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH), Information Communication and Technology (ICT), backed by policy and advocacy.
